The announcement

The government provided further targeted relief after tighter border measures disrupted construction manpower. Qualifying residential project completion periods received six additional months. Certain developer ABSD commencement and completion timelines were extended, subject to the land purchase and original deadline conditions in the announcement.

What this means for property planning

For a buyer, the relevant issue is whether the project-specific completion schedule still matches the household’s move. Ask for the latest construction update rather than relying on a marketing timeline issued before the disruption.

For an owner selling to fund a replacement home, synchronising legal completion with key collection can reduce the need for a second move. Where that cannot be achieved, include rent, storage, moving expenses and the cost of servicing loans during the overlap. An extension benefiting a developer does not remove those household costs. This is a record of the 2021 relief announcement, and not a statement that a present project qualifies.

Before acting

Establish your household profile, property ownership, financing and transaction dates. Obtain a written eligibility or financing assessment where needed. A historical announcement cannot establish your present eligibility, tax liability or borrowing limit.
