The announcement
Further temporary relief extended qualifying residential project completion periods by six months and adjusted relevant developer ABSD and Qualifying Certificate timelines. The measures addressed construction disruptions; eligibility and treatment differed across the individual deadlines.
What this means for property planning
A development deadline is different from a buyer’s promised possession date. Buyers should obtain project-specific confirmation of the expected completion programme and review the contract provisions governing delay. A general government extension does not establish when a particular household can collect keys.
When planning an upgrade, compare a best-case completion date with a delayed scenario. Calculate the accommodation cost in each and decide whether the existing home can be retained, sold with negotiated timing, or replaced with a temporary rental. This makes the financial consequence of uncertainty visible. The release belongs to a temporary pandemic relief framework and is not a current general extension entitlement.
Before acting
Establish your household profile, property ownership, financing and transaction dates. Obtain a written eligibility or financing assessment where needed. A historical announcement cannot establish your present eligibility, tax liability or borrowing limit.
